A full day tour celebrating the spring migration of birds through the Southern Lakes area of the Yukon. Your interpretative guides will take you to Swan Haven, a wildlife viewing centre at the headwaters of the Yukon River where tundra and trumpeter swans, shorebirds, ducks and waterfowl gather. You will see candle ice, the first open water of spring and enjoy an outdoor picnic lunch. The tour also includes a guided exploration of the historic village of Carcross, the sand dunes known as the desert and a visit with members of the local bird club on the shores of Bennett Lake.
- Level of Activity: Easy to moderate – walking on uneven terrain
- Clothing: waterproof walking/hiking boots; layered clothing including windproof jacket; hat & mitts/gloves.
- Length of Tour: 9½ hours; pick-up at hotels at 8:30 am

- 8:30 - Depart hotel by van – head south
- 9:00 - Yukon River bridge look out – good bird viewing – scenic lookout
- 9:30 - Swan Haven – guided viewing – use scopes – interpretative centre
- 10:40 - warm-up & snack
- 11:00 - depart for Tagish Bridge
- 11:30 - explore Tagish River area – creek – get closer to swans
- 1:00 - lunch at Tagish
- 1:45 – depart for Carcross
- 2:15 – arrive Carcross Desert – hike; (depends on snow cover/mud)
- 3:00 – van tour down highway to Bove Island look-out
- 3:30 – park at Carcross Train Station – walk – pedestrian bridge – tour village
- 4:15 – end at member of bird club– bird talk & viewing – snack
- 5:15 – depart Carcross for Whitehorse
- 6:00 – drop at hotels
