Spring on the Yukon Flyway

Come North and experience the resurgence of life that grips the environment … and the people every year at this time. Spring in the North is amazing! This weekend is your chance to experience the re-awakening natural world Yukon style

  • The migration of birds – tundra and trumpeter swans, widgeons, Canada Geese, Northern Pintails, shorebirds, eagles. At the headwaters of the Yukon River, where the ice opens up early, thousands of birds congregate to rest and feed before proceeding north on the migration flyway to their nesting areas. April is the premier month to view huge numbers and variety of birds.
  • The animals emerging after the cold and dark of  winter. At the Yukon Wildlife Preserve you can often see newborns suckling and the other animals adjusting to the presence of the young ones.
  • The receding ice and snow. Yes, there is mud, but there is also candle ice tinkling as it disappears and crocuses on the southern slopes poking through the snow.
  • The return of  light with dazzling sunshine and days longer than those south of 60°
  • Walking, hiking, exploring … with no bugs!

Spring on the Yukon Flyway is a variety of unique northern experiences which will introduce you to the natural environment of this part of the world. A springtime introduction to the True North.
